No Regard For Human Life: The Best In-Game Dunks of All-Time

UPDATE (1/31/12; 4:22 PM): How on God’s green earth I forgot to add Dwyane Wade’s dunk over Anderson Varejao is beyond me. Just for Wade, I made it video No. 3.

Inspired by last night’s ferocious dunk by Blake Griffin over Kendrick Perkins, we at… oh, wait, what? You don’t know what I’m talking about? What dunk you say? Oh yeah, that’s right, I forgot how much money you save in rent by living under that rock in Central Park.

For the rest of you that had your heads in the sand, here is (very, very likely) the dunk of the year:

As I was saying before, that got us thinking about the greatest dunks of all-time. Hours of YouTube scouring later, we present these as the finalists for best in-game dunks of all time.

The key here is, in-game. I’ve seen better dunks than the ones below in contests, schoolyards, etc, but that’s to be expected. It’s one thing to yam it on some random schmoo in Morningside Park in front of five joggers and a 9-year-old kid. It’s another thing to dunk on someone who is athletically your equal (at least) and in front of the world in a game that actually means something.

Check these dunks out and vote in the poll below (located after the last video). Obviously, we can’t list them all (because we don’t have all day), so we probably left a few out that you love. If you feel we missed one, you can write it into the poll when you vote. We’ll collect the results and post the top 10 on Friday.

Blake Griffin over Timofey Mosgov | 2011
Of course, how could we forget?

Vince Carter over Frederic Weis | 2000 Summer Olympics
The best dunk ever, in my humble opinion

Dwyane Wade over Anderson Varejao | 11/12/09
I have not seen nor heard from Andy since.

Tracy McGrady over Shawn Bradley | ’05 West 1st Round, Game 1
There’s poster victims… and then there’s Shawn Bradley

Shawn Kemp over Alton Lister | ’92 West 1st Round, Game 4
The Reign Man restores dignity to the name Shawn.
(If Kemp did this today, he’d get a tech for taunting. Thank you, David Stern.)

Amar’e Stoudemire over Anthony Tolliver | 3/23/10
Back when Amar’e had knees. Y’all musta forgot.

Vince Carter over Dikembe Mutumbo | 3/13/99
I swear Vince looks like he jumps twice when you see it close up

Vince Carter over Tim Duncan | 11/1/02
Honestly, Vince may be the best ever

Julius Erving over Michael Cooper (Rock The Baby) | 5/26/83
An oldie but goodie

Keon Clark over Shawn Bradley
Forgotten by many, Keon was throw-dunking before Dwight & Blake. The poor quality of the video takes away from how good this one was.

Scottie Pippen over Patrick Ewing | ’94 East 2nd Round, Game 6
I watched this game live. As a Knick fan, it hurts me to watch, to this day.

Michael Jordan over Patrick Ewing | ’91 East 1st Round, Game 3
Sigh.

John Starks over Horace Grant & Michael Jordan | ’93 East Finals, Game 2
I had this poster on my wall as a kid. The Bulls fans would argue with me that Jordan didn’t get dunked on. My response? “He’s in the poster!”

Kevin Johnson over Hakeem Olajuwon | ’94 West Finals, Game 4
One of the best little-guy-over-big-guy dunks, if not the best.

Vince Carter over Alonzo Mourning
That’s three for Vince on this list? Best dunker ever, anyone?

Tom Chambers over Mark Jackson
Another oldie but goodie. Elevation, holmes.

Robert Pack over Shawn Bradley | 1995
Jesus, Shawn…

Baron Davis over Andrei Kirilenko | ’07 West 2nd Round, Game 3
If the Knicks can get THAT guy back…

Chris Webber over Charles Barkley | 11/16/93
The next time they played, Chuck dropped 56 points. Revenge is the sweetest joy next to getting…

Jerome Lane over Backboard
Send it in, Jerome!

Hakim Warrick over Royal Ivey | ’03 NCAA Tournament, Nat’l Semifinal
Teabag, anyone?
